Neonatal hydromucometrocolpos: prenatal diagnosis with MRI

The diagnosis of fetal malformations remains a challenge, despite advances in obstetric gynecology and fetal ultrasound. Hydromucometrocolpos is defined as a vaginal and uterine dilation caused by an accumulation of mucinous secretions usually due to an obstruction or malformation of the genital tract. We present a case of hydromucometrocolpos diagnosed by MRI in a 34-week fetus who presented an abdominal cystic mass in prenatal ultrasound. Upon birth, an imperforated hymen was detected with posterior drainage of the hidromucometrocolpos.
